Blockchain and records management: disruptive force or new approach?

Abstract: Purpose Archival repositories rely on the authenticity of records. The potential manipulation of records and information present a unique challenge to archival repositories and their mission to collect, maintain and provide access to the authentic records. The purpose of this paper is to outline the technical aspects of blockchain and describe potential records management and archival implications of the technology. The implications to consider include data management, records existing on a blockchain and reco… Show more

“…It is also expected to facilitate scoping and categorizing future studies by providing a set of defined set research categories in the field. Bhatia et al (2020) described the technological aspects of blockchain as well as the technology's potential records management and archival implications. Data management, documents on a blockchain and records disposition are also things to think about.…”

“…Nowadays, IG pushes planning, decision-making and control of data and records, out to the edges – to individuals and non-human entities, such as machines and other technical infrastructure, that operate autonomously or within intelligent systems as human proxies (Lemieux et al , 2020). This makes IG an important driver to apply information technologies that need to be decentralized (Gunasekaran et al , 2016; Bhatia et al , 2020; Franks, 2020). Building upon the recent studies, among the latest decentralized information technologies, which are determined by IG, we can particularly distinguish blockchain, big data, IoT, cloud, cyber security, digital ledger of transactions and, specifically, their latest releases (de Paula et al , 2019; Kashav et al , 2020; Benitez et al , 2022; Dong et al , 2021; Raji et al , 2021).…”
