Blood and other possible inflammatory cells in the sparid Acanthopagrus australis (Günther)

Abstract: The peripheral blood cells of Acanthopagrus australis include erythrocytes, elongated and rounded thrombocytes, lymphocytes, neutrophils and monocytes. The ultrastructure of lymphocytes, neutrophils and monocytes is described. Type 1 cells with characteristic elongated, eosinophilic granules and type 2 cells with rounded, apparently labile granules are common in the gill filaments and do not increase or decrease significantly in abundance in ectoparasiteinfested gill filaments.
