“…Because invasive assessment of coronary microvascular function is not feasible for ethical reasons in healthy subjects, age-and gender-matched controls were selected from an observational study of coronary microvascular function in consecutive patients with chronic coronary syndrome conducted at our institution as previously described. 14,15 The controls had symptoms and/or non-invasive testing suggestive of ischemia, and no coronary stenoses on elective coronary angiogram, thus representative of INOCA.
