Blood Pressure Control in Hypertensive Patients, Cardiovascular Risk Profile and the Prevalence of Masked Uncontrolled Hypertension (MUCH)

Abstract: Introduction:The term masked hypertension (MH) should be used for untreated individuals who have normal office blood pressure but elevated ambulatory blood pressure. For treated patients, this condition should be termed masked uncontrolled hypertension (MUCH).Research Objectives:Masked uncontrolled hypertension (MUCH) has gone unrecognized because few studies have used 24-h ABPM to determine the prevalence of suboptimal BP control in seemingly well-treated patients, and there are few such studies in large coho… Show more

“…In patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, ED is associated with excessive generation of free radicals and oxidant injury [47]. In hypertensive patients and normotensive subjects, a reduction in nitric oxide availability participates in age-related ED [48]. In patients with end-stage renal disease, a single session of hemodialysis impaired endothelium-dependent vasodilation by an acute increase in oxidative stress [49].…”

“…Most hypertensive patients have failed to achieve blood pressure levels lower than 140/90 mm Hg [10][11][12][13][14]. The proportion of well-controlled hypertension among the treated hypertensive patients in Bulgaria was smaller (6-10%), as compared with 27% for other eight countries in Central and Eastern Europe [15].…”

“…Health condition requiring primary care however has no little symptoms of Hypertension, in such conditions it is probable to control the problem through effective treatment. However, problems of high blood pressure are observed in people due to the prevalence masked untreated hypertension (Naser et al, 2016). Patients beliefs regarding their treatments of hypertension are also considered as an important factor in providing positive results.…”
