“…This ratio was higher than in other series. In the RESITRA (Spanish network) database, the BSI episodes/patient ratio was 1.2 (121 episodes in 102 patients), and this was quite similar in a Greek experience where 22 RTR presented 26 BSI episodes giving a ratio of 1.18 BSI episode/patient . The growing antibiotic resistance among causative bacteria can be a contributing factor to the higher recurrence rates in our study.…”

“…The prevalence of ESBL‐producing organisms was noted to increase with time among E. coli bloodstream isolates from 0% to 8% between 2000 and 2007 . The trend was higher in later studies, though our study (2009‐2016) showed less frequent ESBL‐producing E. coli (12.7%) and Klebsiella (29.2%) than reported in the Greek experience (2010‐2013): 2/6 (33.3%) for E. coli and 2/5 (40%) for Klebsiella . These findings signify the increasing risk for RTR to develop infection by multidrug‐resistant pathogens …”
