In an emerging market and developing economies, transaction governance structure (TGS) plays a crucial role in determining transaction costs (TC) and transaction efficiency (TE) for small and medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs). The presence of institutional voids (IVs) further complicates the situation by adding uncertainty and complexity to the transactions. Therefore, understanding the interplay between TGS, TC, TE, and IVs is essential for SMEs to thrive and contribute to the overall economic growth of the country. This study investigates the impact of transaction governance structure on transaction efficiency with the moderating effect of institutional voids on small and medium‐sized IT and software firms in Bangladesh. A sample of 131 SMEs was selected using nonprobability convenience and snowball sampling techniques. Data were collected using a self‐administered structured questionnaire with a 5‐point Likert scale and analysed using the PLS‐SEM approach. The study findings reveal that TGS significantly and positively impacts TE, and IV moderates the relationship between TGS and TE positively. The results of the study reveal that TGS plays a crucial role in reducing transaction costs and enhancing transaction efficiency for small and medium‐sized firms in Bangladesh, thus presenting opportunities for inclusive growth and development in the country's software and IT sector. This study provided valuable insights for policymakers and practitioners on the importance of TGS and IV in enhancing transaction efficiency. Additionally, the study acknowledges the significance of meeting social and environmental needs by leveraging corporate assets and expertise, strengthening a company's competitive strategy, and developing new business opportunities.

Academicians and practitioners have unanimously accepted that the entrepreneurs infuse dynamism and growth in the economy by developing new ideas and realising the ideas by creating new ventures. However, there is limited understanding about whether or how the entrepreneur influences the firm's performance that he or she has created. The focus of this paper is to explore the influences of entrepreneurial competencies on a firms’ performance with the empirical data from the hospitality service sector micro-enterprises in Bangladesh. Partial least square (PLS) regression analyses results generated using the primary data from 73 small restaurants from Khulna, the third-largest city of Bangladesh with an estimated population of 1 million, reveal that the conceptual competence of the entrepreneurs is the most commonly contribute entrepreneurial competence in terms of producing business performances. This revelation of this research once again highlights the mental front of entrepreneurship as the front side performance driver. PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to contribute to the understanding of the relationship between different types of organizational culture (hierarchical, clan or group, market or rational and adhocratic) and sustainability through three dimensions (economic, environmental and social) in ecotourism businesses in Oaxaca and Chiapas, Mexico.Design/methodology/approachIn this research 80 questionnaires were administered in the form of face-to-face interviews to ecotourism business owners'. Through a discriminant analysis and the theoretical support of the competing values framework (CVF), the prevailing types of culture were identified, and their influence was analysed through a regression analysis.FindingsThe results show that ecotourism businesses which are driven by hierarchical culture tend to have a greater focus on economic sustainability, while those businesses with a market or rational culture show a positive and significant influence on environmental sustainability. Likewise, businesses with adhocratic culture achieve sustainability holistically; however, the data reveal that clan or group culture is not associated with social sustainability.Originality/valueThis study offers empirical research that explains the relationship between organizational culture and sustainability. Additionally, it contributes to the study of environmental management issues in the ecotourism sector.
