Bluetooth Navigation System Using WI-FI Access Points

Abstract: There have been various navigation and tracking systems being developed with the help of technologies like GPS, GSM, Bluetooth, IR, Wi-Fi and Radar. Outdoor positioning systems have been deployed quite successfully using GPS but positioning systems for indoor environments still do not have widespread deployment due to various reasons. Most of these use only a single technology for positioning but using more than one in cooperation with each other is always advantageous for obtaining greater accuracy. Particula… Show more

“…The disadvantages of the RFID are the change in the infrastructure and the user needs to carry a RFID reader (Na, 2006) Bluetooth cover a range of less than 10m (Bell, S. et al, 2010). Several systems used more than one technology such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to obtain a high level of accuracy (Agrawal, R., et al, 2012) and in FootPath system presented in Link, J. A., et al (2011) the accelerometer and the compass which are available in modern smartphones are used combined with an indoor map.…”

“…In this method, the equipment placed in buildings or indoor areas like sensors and beacons should be set up beforehand. These methods are performed by using systems like infrared (IR) [1], Wi-Fi [2], Ultra Wide Band (UWB) [3], RFID [4] and Bluetooth [5]. The disadvantage of the infrastructure based system is that the equipment used for the infrastructure can be damaged from flood, fire, and earthquake.…”
