PurposeThis paper identifies and discusses the strategies adopted by a manufacturing company to manage its national and international employees' anxiety, health and safety with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, to fill a current research gap.Design/methodology/approachThis paper uses the qualitative method to identify the strategies employed by a manufacturing company to manage its employees' anxiety, health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thematic analysis of data from fourteen semi-structured interviews is presented.FindingsResults from the data analysed show that five strategies that help manage employees' health, safety and anxiety are - enhanced communication, formulation and enforcement of policies, rules and regulation, education and training, and management commitment. The findings indicate that the implementation of these strategies does not lead to a negative effect and therefore can conclude that there was no cobra effect.Research limitations/implicationsAlthough exploratory and based on one organisation; the findings lay the foundation for future theoretically grounded research on management of employees' health, safety and anxiety.Practical implicationsFindings could be the basis for training for managers and also be used to modify the strategies applied in managing employees' anxiety, health and safety.Originality/valueThis paper investigates and offers insight into the best strategies to adopt to manage employees' anxiety, safety and health during the COVID-19 pandemic in the manufacturing sector.

The Australian Royal Commissions on aged care quality and safety, and on violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation of people with disability, have raised important questions about the degree to which boards of directors of aged care and disability support providers are assuring that the organisations they govern are providing quality and safe services. This article addresses the question of to what extent changes in legislation and regulatory standards in aged care and disability create new expectations of these boards and directors. Although directors have long been held to have a duty of care and diligence, and to have responsibility for determining and monitoring an organisation's services, these expectations have been elevated to a new level in relation to quality and safety.

This study examines and analyzes the influence of workplace security and safety culture on employee retention and loyalty. The population in this study were all employees working at manufacturing companies in Gresik. Sampling using a simple random sampling technique, and the sample used in this study was 60 samples. This research aims to understand entrepreneurs, especially those engaged in manufacturing because the worker safety factor is significant. Employers can retain the best employees and increase employee loyalty to the organization. Methods This research takes a quantitative approach by using a cross-sectional design. Research sources come from primary sources obtained through questionnaires and secondary sources from articles related to the research topic. Research data collection through questionnaires using a five Likert scale with five alternative answers—analysis of research data using multiple linear regression tests that had previously been through the classical assumption test using SPSS version 24. The test results show that all the hypotheses proposed have a significant effect. Employee loyalty, workplace security, and safety culture significantly impact retention and work safety and security culture positively affect employee loyalty. The implication for practitioners based on this research is that workplace safety is a basic need for employees that employers must meet. Organizations must also implement a good workplace safety culture to increase loyalty and retain employees.
