Bond Strenght of Zirconia Submitted to Different Surface Treatments

Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the shear bond strength of a recent adhesive system used in the cementation of zirconia. Material and Methods: Overall, 72 zirconia specimens (Zirconzhan) were divided and randomized into 3 groups according to the type of surface treatment: G1 no treatment + adhesive system; G2 blasted with aluminum oxide + adhesive system and G3 tribochemical treatment (Rocatec Plus) + adhesive system. Half of each group (n = 12) had bond strength evaluated on two occasions: 24 hours after cementation, … Show more

“…Four of them presented increase [86] , [137] , [147] , [162] . When SA was used with additional surface pre-treatments (SA + OST), mean pooled difference showed significant changes in all groups, while only 1 study [171] showed no significant mean difference of bond strength after aging and ( Fig. 2 B).…”

“…In cases where SA was applied with no other surface pre-treatment (SA+NOST), 7 studies [137] , [147] , [148] , [160] , [161] , [162] , [171] in the shear test group showed no significant difference of bond strength after aging, while mean pooled difference of groups based on cement/primer combination showed significant differences in all groups ( Fig. 2 A, Table 2 ).…”

“…El estudio se llevó a cabo en grupos aleatorizados de zirconio con un tipo de tratamiento superficial. Los primeros resultados arrojan una mayor fuerza adhesiva en los grupos 1 y 3; sin embargo, se marca una diferencia clara entre ambos grupos luego del ciclo térmico, tras lo cual el grupo 3 que presentó mayor fuerza de unión y el 93% del peso de la muestra correspondía al zirconio 51 .…”

“…[20][21][22] As for chemical bonding, many studies reported that using primers and resin cement based on 10-methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (MDP) monomer increased bond strength. 23,24 They are considered as materials of choice for cementation of indirect alumina and zirconia restorations, since MDP monomer bonded directly to metal oxides and the phosphoric-acid groups of MDP can react with the oxide layer on the zirconia surface. 25,26 It was also shown in previous studies that the creation of a micro-retentive surface is an important factor for achieving strong and durable adhesion, and promotes as well the chemical reaction with MDP monomer.…”
