Bonding effectiveness of self-adhesive and conventional-type adhesive resin cements to CAD/CAM resin blocks. Part 2: Effect of ultrasonic and acid cleaning

Abstract: The present study assessed the effect of ultrasonic and acid cleaning on resin cement bonding to CAD/CAM resin blocks. One of two resin cements, PANAVIA V5 (PV5) or PANAVIA SA CEMENT HANDMIX (PSA), were bonded to one of 24 CAD/CAM blocks (KATANA AVENCIA BLOCK). Each cement group was divided into four subgroups: no cleaning (Ctl), ultrasonic cleaning (Uc), acid cleaning (Ac) and Uc+Ac. Micro-tensile bond strengths (µTBSs) were measured immediately and 1, 3, and 6 months after water storage. Block surfaces after… Show more

“…APA treatment for Ag-Pd-Cu-Au alloy showed a significant increase in the SBS between the cured bulkfill flowable composite resin and the alloy when using self-adhesive cement. However, the SBS between them in absence of APA treatment maintained high values of [16][17][18][19] MPa. Furthermore, silane coupling treatment for the cured bulk-fill flowable composite resin showed no significant effect on the increase of the SBS between them.…”

“…Although APA the metal surface significantly increased the SBS value between metal rod and resin disk which were cemented by self-adhesive resin cement, the experimental groups without APA (Groups 1, 2, and 3) still showed relatively high SBS of [16][17][18] MPa. This result may be attributed to the bonding effectiveness of the carboxylic acid and phosphoric acid monomer contained in the self-adhesive cement.…”

“…CAD/CAM composite resin crown restoration systems for premolars were included in the Japanese health insurance system in 2014, after which their use spread rapidly (1,3). However, because of rapid polymerization resulting from the high temperature and pressure of production (4,5), it is not easy to bond these restoration with luting agents, which means there is no unpolymerized layer on the surface. Some Japanese case reports noted desorption (especially early desorption) of CAD/CAM crowns.…”
