“…Chen et al also evaluated a panel of eight specific c-miRs in PM LBMD woF patients (n = 46) by a qPCR platform and using a combination of three eRGs to normalize data expression [33]. Although none of the serum levels of these miRs were significantly dysregulated, miR-21-5p and miR-23a-3p showed log 2 FC of >1 (biologically considered up-regulated) and miR-125b-5p of <−1 (biologically considered down-regulated) in LBMD women compared to CTRs.…”

“…The aim of a study by Chen et al [ 65 ] was to analyze the serum miRNA profile between patients belonging to four groups, (13 non-OP/nonsarcopenic patients (NN), 46 OP/Osteopenic patients (OO), 15 sarco-osteopenic patients (SOP), and one sarcopenic patient (SP)), by performing qPCR. Eight bone-related miRNAs (miR-1-3p, miR-21-5p, miR-23a-3p, miR-100-5p, miR-125b-5p, miR-133a-3p, and miR-206) were not differentially expressed among the four groups, nor when compared according to the muscle or bone status (51 sarcopenic patients vs. 51 non-SP, and eight OP patients vs. 55 non-OP), even if fold changes of specific miRNAs indicated upregulation or downregulation in OP patients compared to non-OP subjects.…”

“…Similarly, increased levels of serum miR-483-5p has been found in another study population of OP women vs. non-OP controls [81]. Very recently, an independent study evaluated five bone-specific miRNAs (miR-206, miR-133a-3p, miR-125b-5p, miR-100-5p, and miR-24-3p) in serum samples of postmenopausal OP but results revealed no significant alterations compared to healthy postmenopausal women [82] that, in the case of miR-133a-3p, is in contrast with a previous observation [72]. Circulating miRNAs may be also a potential tool for monitoring the anti-OP therapies effects.…”
