Bone mineral measurements of subchondral and trabecular bone in healthy and osteoporotic rabbits

Abstract: DXA is a reliable and precise method to evaluate the bone mass in rabbits. Our results also suggest that subchondral bone is a bone of mixed densitometric characteristics with marked cortical bone predominance.

“…In vivo paracrine and autocrine signalling cascades leading to bone formation are complex and rely on strict spatiotemporal interplay between select growth factors. Teasing apart the individual roles that each growth factor plays within bone development and healing systems is of the highest (Aerssens et al, 1998;Kimmel and Jee, 1982;Neyt et al, 1998;Pearce et al, 2007;Skurla and James, 2005) (Aerssens et al, 1998;Mosekilde et al, 1993;Pearce et al, 2007;Thorwarth et al, 2005) Primates (Aerssens et al, 1998;Newman et al, 1995;Pearce et al, 2007;Ravaglioli et al, 1996) (Castaneda et al, 2006;Liebschner, 2004;Pearce et al, 2007) (Aerssens et al, 1998;Gomes and Fernandes, 2010;Liebschner, 2004;O'Loughlin et al, 2008) Table 4. “…Bilateral ovariectomy was performed by anesthetizing rabbits with 5% chloral hydrate (3 ml/kg) and placing the animal in a supine position on a rabbit fixation board (Hepu Co.Ltd, Tianjin, China) as previously described (26). The abdominal region of the anesthetized rabbit was aseptically prepared and a 5-cm incision was made on the middle abdomen of the rabbit.…”

“…14 W aspekcie tkanki kostnej, różnice z gatunkiem ludzkim wynikają głownie z innej anatomii i mikrostruktury oraz czasu przebudowy kostnej, która u królika przebiega szybciej. 15 Pewne podobieństwa występują natomiast w poziomie gęstości kości oraz odporności na złamania, w obszarze środkowym trzonów kości. U królików w badaniach implantacji eksperymentalnej wykorzystywane są kości piszczelowe.…”
