Welcome to the fall 2023 Issue of World Affairs! I am very pleased to announce that, on June 7, 2023, the Policy Studies Organization (PSO)-which has owned and published World Affairs (WAJ) since 2016-was granted special consultative status by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations (UN). This is indeed an honor and a serious responsibility. Consultative relationships with nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) enable ECOSOC, or one of its bodies, to seek expert information or advice from organizations with special competence in a subject matter. With 35 international journals focusing on policy-related issues (ranging from water policy to space education to international affairs, and far beyond 1 ), the PSO-a nonprofit NGO based in Washington, D.C.-certainly meets this special competence criteria with aplomb! Consultative UN status now enables the PSO and its journals to engage in a number of ways with ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies, the UN Human Rights Council, and, under specific circumstances, to attend 1 View the wide range of policy areas covered by all the 35 PSO policy journals at https:// ipsonet.org/publications/journals/.
