The ‘Bronze Age’ Concept and Nubia during the Second Millennium bce: Does One Size Fit All?

“…The so-called 'C-Group' culture is most frequently attested throughout the 3 Nile Valley between the First and Second Cataracts during a period spanning approximately 500 years (Schröder 2021).2 C-Group sites and material culture have also been documented at sites north of the First Cataract in pharaonic Egyptian territory (Friedman 2001:29-33;Friedman 2004). The other 'Middle Nubian' culture is known as 'Pan-Grave' , and it has a wide distribution throughout the Nile Valley from Middle Egypt to the Second Cataract (Bietak 1966:43-78;Säve-Söderbergh 1989:15-19;de Souza 2019a;de Souza 2022). There is also 'Pan-Grave related' evidence from the surrounding deserts, in particular to the east of the Nile (Manzo 2012;Manzo 2017:33-54).…”
