Brain activity and the perception of self-agency while viewing a video of hand grasping

Abstract: Self-agency is the recognition of one's own movement and plays a vital role in purposeful, voluntary movement. A sense of self-agency can be elicited in individuals who view their own simple finger movements as they are projected onto a screen and aligned with their actual hand position. Here, we examined whether individuals perceived self-agency when they viewed a video of a hand grasping a wooden cylinder and whether the perception of self-agency correlated with simultaneous changes in oxy-hemoglobin in the … Show more

“…However, this concept also has some disputes on the selection of objects. The object of reasonable use is regarded as the work itself, and the object of reasonable use should be the right of the copyright owner [ 15 ]. Spelten E R et al believe that in the collective information management system of copyright information, in addition to the personal information of the obligee, the monitoring system attached to the management system will also involve the private domain of the user to some extent [ 16 ].…”

“…44 We perceive almost all stimuli under any circumstances; therefore, it is challenging to aggregate perception studies. To the best of our knowledge, perception of depth, 45 emotion, [46][47][48] face, 49 reward, 50,51 self-agency, 52 and time 53 have been reported. Finally, reading studies include dyslexia 54 and overt reading 55 (reading aloud).…”

“…Neural activity across multiple brain regions, including increased excitability of the frontoparietal network, has been associated with VMI [ 9 , 10 , 11 ]. Furthermore, VMI may activate brain regions (i.e., prefrontal area) associated with a sense of agency (SOA) [ 19 ]. Action observation therapy (AOT), in which motor imagery is induced from visual stimuli, has also been reported [ 20 , 21 ].…”
