Brain tumor segmentation and overall survival period prediction in glioblastoma multiforme using radiomic features

Abstract: Summary Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM or glioblastoma) is a fast‐growing glioma that are the most invasive type of glial tumors, rapidly growing and commonly spreading into nearby brain tissue. Due to its aggressive and fast growing nature, patients suffer from high grade glioma (GBM) survive very less time as compare to other tumors. Prediction of patient survival (OS) time helps the radiologist for better systematic treatment planning and clinical decision making. The OS rate depends on the tumor size, shape,… Show more

“…The abnormal growth of cells in the human body is called a tumor; tumors in the brain can cause death. 1 Moreover, an advanced image processing application is more required to detect the brain tumor. 2 The control unit of the human is the brain, so it has numerous joint neurons for many functions.…”

“…ROI extraction in the imaging data must be performed manually or semi/fully automatically using computational algorithms approved by the expert neuropathologist (neurooncologist). Quantitative features extraction includes different features such as histogram-based, first, second, or higher-order features [ 23 , 24 , 25 , 26 ]. Recently, high-level features obtained from deep learning have also been significantly used to analyze cancer regions [ 27 , 28 , 29 ].…”

“…A brain tumor is a fatal disease, and its threat to human life makes it more challenging with the escalation in the number of deaths globally [ 1 ]. Brain and other nervous system cancer is a prevalent type affecting adult men, women, and children and is the tenth primary cause of death [ 2 ].…”
