Bridging BIM and LCSA to Greening Existing Buildings: From A Literature Review to Development of Conceptual Framework

Abstract: Instead of looking into new building, this study shifted the focus to existing buildings considering the area has been less explored although the amount of energy released during the phase has significant influence towards sustainability impacts. Deriving from the situation, the purpose of this paper is to explore the potential of bridging BIM and the four-steps approach of Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment (LCSA) as an assisting tool to improve the performances of existing non-green buildings. To achieve a… Show more

“…The findings were used to propose an LCSA framework for buildings, while the connection to Building Information Modelling (BIM), artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things is proposed to advance the LCSA methodology. Also related to BIM, Zulkefli et al [81] highlighted the extensive work that has been done to link LCA and LCC to BIM. However, very few efforts have been made so far to link LCSA to BIM tools.…”

“…Many research attempts have been made to address individual pillars of effectiveness (Figure 1). The integration of building information modelling (BIM) and LCA has been studied for conducting LCSA in early design stages [24,25]. Earlier, an ecoeffectiveness approach has been proposed for BSA, accommodating circularity, solar income, and diversity [26].…”
