BRM270 targets cancer stem cells and augments chemo‑sensitivity in cancer (Review)

Abstract: Over the past decade, a number of studies have demonstrated the resistance of cancer cells to conventional drugs and have recognized this as a major challenge in cancer therapy. While attempting to understand the underlying mechanisms of chemoresistance, several studies have suggested that the presence of cancer stem cells (CSCs) in tumors is one of the major pathways contributing toward resistance. Chemoresistance leads to cancer treatment failure and worsens the prognosis of patients. Natural herbal compound… Show more

“…In patients, CSCs could be selected after chemotherapy and be responsible for the residual disease owing to their chemoresistance capacity [ 123 , 124 , 125 , 126 ]. The most characterized CSCs are carcinoma SCs.…”

“…It seems that the administration of this phytochemical extract selectively targeting CD44 + PDAC cells in tumors might be an effective approach against pancreatic tumorigenesis. BRM270 also has the advantage of being effective in PC cells resistant to paclitaxel and gefitinib [98].…”

“…Cervical Cancer stem cells (CCSCs), a part of cancer cells, are claimed to be responsible for tumor growth, disease relapse, and treatment resistance (Chandimali et al, 2020). Salinomycin (Sal) is a traditional therapeutic drug used to fight against bacteria and coccidian, which has drawn growing attention for its exceptional features in targeting and killing CSCs (Gupta et al, 2009;Zhang et al, 2011;Zhi et al, 2011;.…”
