Broadband microwave absorption properties of polyurethane foam absorber optimized by sandwiched cross-shaped metamaterial

Abstract: The effect of a sandwiched cross-shaped metamaterial absorber (CMMA) on microwave absorption properties of the double-layered polyurethane foam absorber (PUFA) is investigated. Combining with the sandwiched CMMA, the bandwidth of −10-dB reflection loss for PUFA is broadened from 7.4 GHz to 9.1 GHz, which is attributed to the overlap of two absorption peaks originating from CMMA and PUFA, respectively. The values of the two absorption peaks located at 10.15 GHz and 14.7 GHz are −38.44 dB and −40.91 dB, respecti… Show more

“…With the development of multi-standard communication systems, the multi-band MMA with 'thin, light, wide, and strong' absorption plays a vital role in multi-band military stealth, radio-frequency and microwave circuits, and detection imaging devices [28,29]. The performance of early MMAs is mostly narrow-band single-frequency absorption, which is increasingly unable to adapt to the complex and changing electromagnetic environment.…”

“…RL of SiC f gets peak value −9.42 dB at 12.96 GHz, , where 1 represents the impedance of absorber equals to free space while 0 means the phase of incident E, H field are the same at the interface. 26) The central symmetry C-DFRMA is not sensitive to polarization angle j shown in Fig. 3(c).…”

“…Some crucial parameters such as absorption bandwidth, relative bandwidth, periodicity, and thickness of MMA are listed herein. Compared with other MMAs, [24][25][26][27] the purposed MMA is flexible and covers the whole Ku, K, Ka bands, and some of X, U bands. Furthermore, due to the pattern is located on the lower surface of the PI layer, the resonance peaks at 13.91 GHz and 37.63 GHz is improved obviously.…”
