Bronchial mucous gland adenoma: a rare case report and literature review

Abstract

Mucous gland adenoma (MGA) is a rare benign tumor originating from the tracheobronchial serous mucinous glands and ducts. Most cases of this tumor are central-type, with very few being peripheral-type. A PubMed search identified no more than five cases of peripheral-type MGA in the literature. This report describes a rare case of peripheral-type MGA and identifies some special pathological features. The patient underwent right lower lobectomy, and the lesion was completely removed by video-assisted thoracic surgery. Currently, a clear diagnosis of MGA cannot be made before surgery, and further cases must be accumulated for future clinical or basic research.
