Buckling of a nano‐rod with taken into account of surface effect
Anatolii Bochkarev
Abstract:Buckling of a simple supported and cantilever nano‐rod and under action of self‐weight was modeled, taking into account the surface effect according to two models of surface elasticity – Gurtin–Murdoch and Steigmann–Ogden. The size effect under the buckling was studied by the Ritz method using two kinematic hypotheses, known as the rod theories of Euler–Bernoulli and Timoshenko. The simulation results were compared depending on the accepted surface elasticity model and the kinematic hypothesis.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
