Building energy modelling and simulations: qualitative and quantitative analysis

Abstract: Abstract.Buildings consume half of all energy use and are also responsible for a similar proportion of carbon dioxide emission. The heat transfer across the building envelope -the shell of a house that separates the inside and outside, should generally be minimized. In the paper validation and verification based on Building Energy Simulation Test (BESTEST) of Energy3D computer code is presented. Program proved to be an excellent tool for qualitative and quantitative analysis of buildings.

“…The software that met all the requirements and was ultimately selected for the calculations was Energy3D, a freely available CAD tool created by Dr Charles Xie and Dr Saeid Nourian with the intention to assist users at various levels of expertise with their studies [25]. Energy3D has been validated by R. Gajewski and P. Pieniążek [26] and compared against a variety of similar simulation software.…”

“…Finally, Aladdin has a built-in physics engine that emulates solar energy and heat transfer processes to estimate building heating/ cooling as well as energy production for PV and CSP systems. Aladdin's energy estimates have been validated against the building energy simulation test (Gajewski and Pieniążek 2017). The platform likewise includes cost estimation for all designed systems.…”

“…In these tests the ANSI 140 standard uses an exemplary test building (Fig. 3) [59][60][61][62][63]. It also describes the thermal and physical properties of building elements, windows properties, schedules of internal gains, ventilation and thermostat control and heat transfer coefficients for all tests.…”
