Building information modelling framework: A research and delivery foundation for industry stakeholders

Abstract: Building Information Modelling (BIM) is an expansive knowledge domain within the Architecture, Engineering, Construction and Operations (AECO) industry. To allow a systematic investigation of BIM's divergent fields, its knowledge components must be defined and expanding boundaries delineated. This paper explores some of the publicly available international guidelines and introduces the BIM Framework, a research and delivery foundation for industry stakeholders. This is a 'scene-setting' paper identifying many … Show more

“…O modelo é composto por objetos paramétricos, correspondentes a elementos construtivos, equipamentos e produtos, que, ao longo do desenvolvimento de projeto, podem ser acrescidos com dados geométricos e propriedades de aspectos diversos, situação que amplia suas potencialidades e aplicações (Succar, 2009;Santos, 2012;Sabol, 2013;Eastman et al, 2014).…”

“…For these definitions, we can refer to the following publications: NBIMS-US (National BIM Standard-US) [17], RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) [18], Penttila [19] and Succar [20]. BIM is a new innovation that is pervasive both in technology and in work processes affecting intra-and inter-organizational activities.…”

“…BIM can also be define as "a digital representation of physical and functional characteristics of a facility and a shared knowledge resource for information about facility forming a reliable basis for decision during its life cycle; defined as existing from earliest conception to demolition" [2]. Meanwhile, [10] asserts that BIM can be define as an IT artifact which model the physical and functional characteristics of a facility and a shared knowledge resource for information about a facility forming a reliable basis for decisions during its life-cycle; defined as existing from earliest conception to demolition.…”

“…Errors, changes, omissions result in upgrading the design a number of times sequentially by different parties [2]. In addition to this, the various interpretations of a single design intent by different parties lead to even more complexities.…”
