Bullying and Neurodiverse Adolescents

Abstract

This chapter aims to review the literature on bullying among adolescents with neurodiversity, to determine the prevalence and characteristics of such dynamics among this population. This is a mapping review, and the study search procedures were applied to three databases (SCOPUS, PubMed, and Web of Science). As a result of the entire analysis and selection process, 14 articles were included in the analytical corpus. The articles identified revealed the complexity of the variables and specificities involved in the relationships about bullying and neurodiversity. The findings reveal that students diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and autism spectrum disorder are more frequently involved in bullying situations compared to their neurotypical peers. The chapter, according to the authors, offers some implications for considering care practices in school psychology for neurodivergent adolescents.
