“…All items are rated on a three-point Likert scale ranging from "not true" (0) to "certainly true" (2). Psychiatric research in Nigeria (Adeosun et al, 2015;Okewole et al, 2015) has demonstrated that the measure has good internal consistency (a ¼ 0.63) and satisfactory inter-scale correlations on all, except the pro-social subscale. Normative values are, however, unavailable for the child and youth population of Nigeria.…”

“…The clinical utility of the Strength and Difficulty Questionnaire (SDQ) in identifying psychiatric morbidity among adolescents has been established, with reliability and validity that are as good as those of Child Behaviour Checklist and the Rutter Questionnaires (Goodman, ). The SDQ is one of the most widely used measures of childhood psychopathology worldwide (Goodman, ), and it has been extensively used in Nigerian settings (Bakare et al, ; Adeosun et al, ; Adeosun et al, ; Akpa et al, ). A single, small‐scale validation study of the SDQ in Nigeria found good internal consistency for the five‐factor model (polychromic alpha 0.708–0.085; Cronbach's alpha 0.463–0.655) and a fairly good fit at confirmatory factor analysis (Akpa et al, ).…”
