Butanolides from the Stem of Cinnamomum Kotoense

Abstract: Kotomolide (1), obtusilactone A (2), isoobtusilactone A (3), secokotomolide (4), kaempferol (5), quercetin (6), (-)-catechin (7), (-)-epicatechin (8), (-)-sesamin (9), isoeugenol (10), trans-ferulic acid (11), benzoic acid (12), p-hydroxybenzoic acid (13), p-hydroxybenzaldehyde (14), a mixture of β-sitosterol (15) and stigmasterol (16), and a mixture of β-sitosterol-D-glucoside (17) and stigmasterol-D-glucoside (18) were isolated from the stems of Cinnamomum kotoense Kanehira & Sasaki. Among them, 1 is a new c… Show more

“…The genus of Cinnamomum has been studied on the pharmacological effect use on an antiproliferation and antitumor activity in few papers [22][23][24][25][26]. A Herbkines prepared by decocting the formula herbs consist of C. cassia cortex, G. uralensis radix, A. macrocephala rhizoma, D. batatas rhizoma, Rubus coreanus fructus, L. platyphylla radix, A. membranaceus radix and C. officinalis fructus has been shown to be a greater candidate for stimulating the production of human leukemic T-cell lines cytokines, such as interferon-g, interleukin (IL)-4, IL-2 and tumor necrosis factora [27].…”

“…Leañ o et al [21] prepared stevia extract which is used as an alternative additive for tiger shrimp, Penaeus monodon, results have shown that non-specific immunity and disease resistance were significant in the shrimp that received stevia extract containing diets. Studies have been done on the pharmacological effects, antiproliferation and antitumor activity in the genus Cinnamomum [22][23][24][25][26]. Isoobtusilactone (IOA) extracted from the leaves of Cinnamomum kotoense possesses an anticancer effect and induces the arrest of G2-M phase which induces apoptosis and increases sub-G1, and inhibits the growth of human non-small cell lung cancer A549 cells [23].…”

“…Lauraceae family have furan butanolides, especially Cinnamomum plants. Butanolides were reported to be distributed in the genus Cinnamomum [23][24][25][26], Machilus [27], Persea [28], Lindera [19,29,30], Actinodaphne [31], Litsea [32], and Aiouea [33] before. Here, C. camphora has been proved to contain butanolides as well.…”
