“…The features of the genera that used to be included in Porphyromonadaceae have been reviewed in 2009 (Sakamoto et al, 2009); the statements below also extend to the more recently added genera Falsiporphyromonas (Wagener et al, 2014), Macellibacteroides (Jabari et al, 2012), and Petrimonas (Grabowski et al, 2005). (An issue with Falsiporphyromonas and Macellibacteroides that is beyond the scope of the current study is that these genera are nested with strong support within Porphyromonas and Parabacteroides , respectively; see Supplementary File 4.)…”

“…Butyricimonas and Odoribacter differ from all other genera except Porphyromonas by containing iso-C 15:0 as major fatty acid, with a low ratio of anteiso-C 15:0 to iso-C 15:0 . Butyricimonas and Odoribacter differ from Falsiporphyromonas and Porphyromonas by their fermentative metabolism (Sakamoto et al, 2009) and partially by their lack of pigments (Nagai et al, 2010). To reflect this distribution of phenotypic features, we propose to emend the family Odoribacteraceae accordingly.…”

“…In addition, the most interesting finding was that the island and inland groups had distinct gut microbiota profiles. The butyric acid-producing genus Butyricimonas of the phylum Bacteroidetes was highly abundant in inland subjects [25, 26]. Butyric acid is a short-chain fatty acid and a product of the fermentation of dietary fiber by the gut microbiota [27].…”

“…Parasutterella excrementihominis and Corynebacterium stationis were isolated, respectively, from human feces and mouse lung (38,39). Butyricimonas virosa, isolated from rat feces, was found to be a butyric-acid-producing bacterium (40). However, no correlation was found between these species and obesity.…”
