C-banding in the polytene chromosomes of species of the plumosus group (Diptera, Chironomidae) and their experimental hybrids

Abstract: The localization and amount of heterochromatin in the plumosus group were studied, including the species Chironomus plumosus L., C. vancouveri and C. balatonicus. The appearance of C bands of Chironomus plumosus in several European populations is traced. The role of the C heterochromatkn in the differentiation of this species is discussed.
