C- Glycosylated flavonoids from black gram husk: Protection against DNA and erythrocytes from oxidative damage and their cytotoxic effect on HeLa cells

Abstract: C-Glycosyl flavones are present in different plant tissues and they exhibit health benefits. In the present study, it was found that C-glycosyl flavones are distributed in different milled fractions of black gram and among these fractions, husk had the highest content of C-glycosyl flavones. Two C-glycosyl flavones from black gram husk were extracted and purified by preparative high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) column. The purity of each compound was assessed by analytical C18 column. The structure… Show more

“…Nevertheless, other studies claimed that vitexin and isovitexin did show weak to no significantfree DPPH radical scavenging abilities [33,84,127,141,142,153,158,159,169,[172][173][174][175][176][177][178][179][180][181]. Also, poor antioxidant activity of vitexin in scavenging ABTS•+ have been observed [153,161].…”

“…It also triggered the process of apoptosis in HeLa cells by downregulating Bcl-2 level with the simultaneous upregulation of Bax and caspase-3 protein expression. 8 Fisetin was reported to induce DNA damage in human oral cancer HSC3 cells. It eliminated cancer cells through enhancing the expression of B-cell lymphoma 2 (BCL2), antagonist/killer, and BCL2-associated X, reducing BCL2 and BCL-x and increasing the cleaved forms of caspase-3,caspase-8, caspase-9, cytochrome c, apoptosis-inducing factor, and endonuclease G in HSC3 cells.…”

“…C-glycosyl flavones from black gram husk exhibited anticancer activity and protected DNA and erythrocytes from oxidative damage. [9] Reported flavonoids from black gram are summarised in Table no 1 Isoflavanone isoferreirin and the pterocarpan glycinol were two P. mungo isoflavonoids. Three novel natural isoflavanones which were characterized as 4'-0methylkievitone, cyclokievitone hydrate and 5deoxykievitone hydrate along with reported kievitone.…”
