C-Reactive Protein, Chemerin, Fetuin-A and Osteopontin as Predictors of Cardiovascular Risks in Persons With Psoriasis Vulgaris

Abstract: The study aimed to contribute to understanding the role of CRP, chemerin, fetuin-A and osteopontin and to assess their suitability as biomarkers of early stages of cardiovascular diseases in psoriasis vulgaris. Serum levels measured in 28 patients and 22 controls. Patients: increased levels of CRP (p<0.001), chemerin (p<0.05), osteopontin (p<0.05) and decreased levels of fetuin-A (p<0.05), significant relationships between CRP and fetuin-A (rho=0.530, p<0.01), CRP and chemerin (rho=0.543, p<0… Show more

“…25 , 57 A substantial body of data found that people with psoriasis had significantly lower levels of fetuin-A than healthy controls. 58–62 This result is in accordance with the findings of another study that reported significantly lower mean serum values of fetuin‑A in patients with psoriasis compared to the healthy control groups. 63 The systemic levels of fetuin‑A are down regulated in patients with psoriasis, most likely due to psoriasis-related inflammation (negative acute phase reactant).…”

“… [ 57 ] Uyar et al 2015 136 (70 patients and 66 controls) A significantly lowered fetuin-A levels were found in patients with psoriasis compared with healthy controls. But there were no observed significant correlations between fetuin-A and PASI scores [ 69 ] Borsky et al 2021 50 (28 patients and 22 controls) In the group of persons with psoriasis, there was a significantly decreased serum level of fetuin-A compare to healthy controls [ 58 ] Genc et al 2016 80 (40 Patients and 40 healthy volunteers) Fetuin-A levels in psoriasis patients were found to be low; however, they did not find any association between levels of fetuin-A and disease severity. [ 59 ] Uysal et al 2014 88 participants (58 patients and 30 controls) There was a significantly higher level of fetuin-A in patients with psoriasis than the control group.…”

“…Fetuin-A has also been found as a positive acute phase reactant that increases in blood circulation in response to inflammation (Mukhopadhyay et al, 2014). This is supported by the study showing a significant positive relationship between fetuin-A and CRP, indicating the inflammatory activity of fetuin-A (Borsky et al, 2021). Different clinical studies revealed the proinflammatory effects of fetuin-A by demonstrating increased levels of fetuin-A in patients with metabolic syndrome, IR, T2DM, obesity, early-stage atherosclerosis, CVD such as coronary artery disease and peripheral artery disease, and NAFLD (Mathews et al, 2002;Stefan et al, 2006a;Mori et al, 2006;Sardana et al, 2021).…”

“…The PASI scores were determined by two dermatological physicians, and their mean value was calculated. Psoriasis severity was evaluated as mild-to-moderate (PASI 10) and severe (PASI ≥ 10) [11].…”
