(C2H8N)2[Be3(HPO3)4]: a low-density beryllium phosphite with large 16-membered rings and helical channels

Abstract: A beryllium-containing open framework, which is analogous to that found in the structure of (C 2 H 8 N) 2 [M 3 (HPO 3 ) 4 ] (M ¼ Zn, Co), has a low density and represents the first example of a Be containing inorganic solid with 16-membered rings.

“…The reactions of BeSO 4 · 4H 2 O, H 3 PO 3 , and amine molecules under hydrothermal conditions usually result in the formation of powder products. Our recent investigations show that the use of a mixture of N , N ‐dimethylformamide and 1,4‐dioxane as the solvent can help in growing good‐quality single crystals of an open‐framework beryllium phosphite, BeHPO‐1 10b. By using other amide solvents under similar solvothermal conditions, new beryllium phosphite compounds are expected to be produced.…”

“…Thus, we deem that cobalt phosphite‐oxalate compounds could be good candidates for widely application. As far as we know, dimethylformamide (DMF) usually used as an appropriate solvent in the synthesis , . However, in the acidic and thermal condition, DMF could decompose as the dimethylamine and the formic acid.…”

“…This phenomenon has been observed before. For example, in the synthesis of (C 2 H 8 N) 2 [Be 3 (HPO 3 ) 4 ], C 2 H 7 N should be produced in situ by decomposing DMF molecule during the hydrothermal reaction …”

“…[H 3 N(CH 2 ) 2 NH 3 ] 0.5 [BePO 4 ], for example, is the first organically templated beryllium phosphate with gismondine (GIS) zeolite topology,23 BePO 4 ‐GME, BePO 4 ‐GIS, and BePO 4 ‐ABW are three large single‐crystals obtained from concentrated amine templates conditions,24 CBP‐CHA is the first molecular sieves with Co II ions encapsulated in channels,25 [H 3 N(CH 2 ) 3 NH 3 ][Be 3 (HPO 4 ) 4 ] and [C 6 N 2 H 13 ][Be 2 (H 2 O)(PO 4 )(HPO 4 )] · H 2 O show interrupted 3D open‐framework structures,26,27 and Be 2 (Hea)(PO 4 )(HPO 4 ) has a neutral inorganic‐organic hybrid framework 28. In the specific field of beryllophosphites, [H 3 N(CH 2 ) 3 NH 3 ] · Be 3 (HPO 3 ) 4 represents the first organically templated beryllium phosphite with 12‐ring channels,29 whereas BeHPO‐1 and SCU‐24 possess large 16‐ring and 24‐ring channels, respectively 30,31…”
