CAD/CAM software for an industrial laser manufacturing tool

Abstract: A facility for rapid prototyping of MEMS devices is crucial for the development of novel miniaturised components in all sectors of high-tech industry, e.g. telecommunications, information technology, micro-optics and aerospace. To overcome the disadvantages of existing techniques in terms of cost and flexibility, a new approach has been taken to provide a tool for rapid prototyping and small-scale production: Complex CAD/CAM software has been developed that automatically generates the tool paths according to a… Show more

“…There are general approaches on CAM programming for various manufacturing techniques like milling [20], drilling and grinding [21]. However, laser manufacturing has to be treated differently, taking into account the non-binary behavior with the workpiece [22]. The interaction of the laser beam with the material depends on several parameters with non-linear behavior.…”

“…Cai Yonglin analysed tool path generation of machining the root of a impeller [4]. Bai Yu researched the milling programming methods of a helical blade part [5], Ines Stassen Boehlen developed a complex CAD/CAM software for automatically generates the tool paths according to a CAD drawing of the MEMS device [6]. Tian, Mei-Li analyzed multi-axis NC milling process of the propeller, and a NC program is generated based on CAM module of UG software for the propeller [7].…”
