Cadmium selenide by XPS

Abstract: Cadmium selenide was analyzed using x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The specimen is a powder purchased from Chemsavers. Sample was fixed to a stainless-steel sample holder with copper 3M TM double-sided adhesive tape. Survey spectra, Cd 3d, Se 3d, O 1s, Cd 3p, Cd MNN, Se LMM, Se 3p, C 1s, and Cd 4d core level along with the valence band spectra were recorded. Results point out a stoichiometry of 0.95 on surface.

“…9 eV, which is attributed to S 2− species, related to the Zn-S bond from the shell [42,43]. The less intense doublet Se 3p 3/2 /Se 3p 1/2 located at ~160.2 eV/166.0 eV confirms the presence of Se 2found in Se 3d signal [39].…”

“…These results are good confirmation of the gradual growth of ZnS layers around the Cd0.25Zn0.75Se core. [39,40]. The Zn 2p HR spectrum is illustrated in Figure 6d, and its doublet, Zn 2p 3/2 /Zn 2p 1/2 , appears at ~1021.8 eV/ 1044.8 eV and suggests the presence of Zn 2+ [41,42].…”

“…[ 55 ] In contrast, XPS spectra of CdSe/Ag hybrids show Cd peaks at 405.06 eV (Cd 3d 5/2 ) and 411.77 eV (Cd 3d 3/2 ) corresponding to Cd 2+ , [ 56,57 ] and Se peaks at 53.90 eV (3d 5/2 ) and 54.60 eV (3d 3/2 ) corresponding to both Se 2− and Se n n − species (Figure 7). [ 54,58,59 ] The binding energies of Ag in the hybrids were observed at 368.09 eV (Ag 3d 5/2 ) and 373.98 eV (Ag 3d 3/2 ) that can be assigned to metallic Ag (0) species. [ 60,61 ] It is important to note that CdSe NPs and aerogels are reported to undergo cation exchange with Ag + to produce α‐Ag 2 Se.…”
