Cadmium Sulphide Nanorods: Synthesis, Characterization and their Photocatalytic Activity

Abstract: Cadmium sulphide (CdS) nanorods were prepared by a single precursor thermal decomposition (SPTD) method. The formation of CdS nanorods and their structure, morphology and elemental composition were studied by means of FT-IR, XRD, FE-SEM, HR-TEM and EDAX analysis. Photoluminescence (PL) and lifetime measurements were recorded to study the luminescence properties of the material. The PL spectrum of the CdS nanorods showed one broad peak and four shoulders and the cause for this emission was discussed. The PL emi… Show more

“…The peak at 1239 cm -1 corresponds to the C-O-C out of phase stretching and the peak at 1087 cm -1 was due to the COS stretching vibration mode and also indicates the C-O stretch of secondary alcoholic groups. Out-of- due to sulfate ions in are linked with water molecules by hydrogen bonding [41]. The vibration absorption peak of Cd-S bond at 405 cm -1 is observed in the spectrum.…”

“…The peak at 3321 cm -1 is attributed to the stretching vibrating mode of O-H, the presence of peak at 3170 cm -1 is due to the inter H-bonding, a peak at 2366 cm -1 which is generally attributed to the presence of CO 2 in the samples, the peak at 2063 cm -1 is mainly due to C≡C triple bond [15]. The presence of characteristic peak at 1633 cm -1 corresponds to H-O stretching vibration, the peaks at 1545 cm -1 and 1411 cm -1 are due to C-O stretching, the peak at 1188 cm -1 is attributed to the C-O-C out of phase stretching.…”

“…Pure CdS shows a band at 605 cm −1 ascribed to Cd-S stretching [22,23]. C/TiO 2 /CdS sample does not show peak which corresponds to Cd-S stretching at 605 cm −1 which might be due to formation of core-shell structure with CdS as core and C doped TiO 2 as shell.…”
