“…Jorge et al (4) examined 87 eyes of patients living in the rural areas of Pernambuco, Brazil, 4 years after phacoemulsification with Ioflex IOL implantation and found a late opacification rate of 7%. Ventura et al (3) performed histopathologic analyses of 5 cases of postoperative Ioflex IOL opacification and described the presence of calcium deposits. These authors could not determine a specific cause for the observed calcification except that 3 of the 5 patients had diabetes mellitus.…”
