Calculating block time and consumed fuel for an aircraft model

Abstract: In this paper we present a novel approach to calculate Block Time and Fuel (BTF) consumed for an aircraft model during a flight. The BTF model computes the ground distance between the origin and destination airports, derives the flight’s cruise altitude and by integrating two institutional data sets calculates the duration and the fuel consumed for the whole of taxi-out, take-off, climb, cruise, descent, approach, landing and taxi-in phases. We use the French Association for Operational Research and Decision S… Show more

“…They aimed to calculate the total flight cost and did not need a very precise model for fuel consumption. In [39], fuel flow was modelled for a flight using BADA, integrating each of its composing phases starting from the departure gate and ending at the arrival gate. Then, a linear approximation for fuel flow as a function of altitude was considered, producing a model that can provide lower bound results for flight planning, but not considering the number of passengers.…”

“…The maintenance and safety of civil aircraft is of great significance in the management of civil aviation maintenance system, which can not only carry out maintenance and inspection of aircraft, but also ensure the safe flight of aircraft, thus reducing the accident rate of civil aircraft in operation 7 . Fault diagnosis involves modern control theory, signal processing and pattern recognition, computer science, artificial intelligence, electronic technology, statistical mathematics and other disciplines 8 . At present, in the process of maintaining civil aircraft in China, regular maintenance is mainly carried out with the help of the complete theory of parts, and maintenance should be carried out according to the situation without the help of equipment status monitoring.…”
