Many sandy beach forests on small islands were cut down by people for farming to provide for their food needs. Land degraded due to over-exploitation is overgrown by Imperata cylindrica, which often causes fires in the dry season. This study aims to determine the species that occur in the secondary succession of Imperata grassland vegetation to assess soil fertility and differences in carbon stocks in various types of vegetation cover on the beach of Marsegu raised coral island. The measurement and calculation of carbon stocks used the Indonesian National Standard 7724:2011 with slight modifications in certain parts. The non-destructive method for calculating the above-ground and below-ground biomass used an allometric and the destructive method was carried out for understory and litter while the carbon content of the soil was taken compositely from several plots and layers and then analyzed in the laboratory. The results showed that the species that can grow and coexist with Imperata cylindrica is Timonius timon. In the final stage of the loss of Imperata cylindrica, the beach forest area was dominated by Terminalia catappa, Sterculia ceramica, and Cassia fistula. The soil's nutrient content of total N, P2O5 (available P) and cation exchange capacity (CEC) is low, with a very high sand texture percentage of 91-93%, which affects soil fertility. A comparison of total carbon stocks between differences in vegetation cover is the Imperata grassland area of 129.955 t/ha, the rehabilitation area is 82.920 t/ha, and the Terminalia vegetation is area 137.977 t/ha.

Anthropogenic activities can greatly influence the lake ecosystems across the globe. Within these ecosystems, the impacts of human activities are most evident on sedimentation, light and nutrient availability, and disturbance frequency. There have been times of natural environmental healing of reservoirs and the present research aims to explore the variations in the water quality of Tarbela reservoir, Pakistan the largest rock-filled dam of the world, from 1990 to 2020. Landsat imagery (Landsat 4-5, 5, 7 and 8) was used to monitor Land Use Land Cover (LULC), Normalized Difference Chlorophyll Index (NDCI), Normalized Difference Turbidity Index (NDTI) and Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI) in Tarbela reservoir, and its surrounding area from 1990−2020, on decadal interval. The results indicated a significant increase in built-up area, of about 630 km2 , in the western and eastern parts of the reservoir, whereas turbidity level, revealed a substantial decline with 4% decrease observed in the last decade, 2010-2020 thus confirming improved water quality. The study also presented expanse in the spatial coverage of chlorophyll index and water index, indicating increase in residence time of the water. It is concluded that the water quality continued to deteriorate with time, however, 2020 was a year of environmental healing and there was an overall water quality improvement of the reservoir observed. The study recommends policies to be formulated for sediment flushing and turbidity reduction for longer time duration to enhance the life of this mega reservoir.

Urban Planning is strongly related to public spaces. Open public spaces are an essential element in sustaining community activity spaces. Social, economic, and other activities regularly happen in this area. Pecinan (Chinatown) is one of the heritage areas in Semarang that still has high community activity. Narrow and crowded street in this area becomes one the issues for pedestrian. The unsafe feeling occurs when people cross the street. The store’s activity on the side of the street also creates a fuzzy condition for pedestrians. The study aims to the sustainability and inclusivity of pedestrian ways in Pecinan. Data Collection is done by observing the actual condition of 1380 samples in the field through interviews and questionnaires for the pedestrian. The method of this study uses quantitative methods and use behavioral mapping for the analysis methods. The result of the study shows that pedestrians tend to rank accessibility as the most important factor, followed by transit points, infrastructure, and parking areas. The result also shows that continuous arcade shade and vegetation coverage as other factors that affect pedestrian comfort in Southeast Asian Country climates condition. The result also reveals that an active frontage of a store creates a more lively atmosphere. The recommendation based on the study is to relocate the street vendors’ activity alongside the narrow road. The relocation also should still be near the area of the Pecinan.
