Calculations of Three-Nucleon Reactions

Abstract: Faddeev calculations using the chiral three-nucleon force in next-to-next-to-next-to-leading-order show that this force is too weak to provide an explanation for the low-energy A y puzzle. The large discrepancy between data and theory for the neutron-neutron quasi-free-scattering cross section in low energy neutrondeuteron breakup requires a modification of the 1 S 0 neutron-neutron force. We discuss the consequences that a bound 1 S 0 state of two neutrons has on neutron-deuteron scattering observables. At hi… Show more

“…Therefore, to answer the question whether consistent chiral NN and 3N Fs provide the explanation of the 3NAPP, one needs to go to at least the N 3 LO of the chiral expansion. The first calculations with N 3 LO 3N F components [26,27] were recently performed at low energies [25,28]. They clearly show that the 3N APP cannot be explained using this approach.…”

“…However, a derivation at N 3 LO of the electroweak current would require the calculation of loop corrections, a task successfully performed for the electromagnetic [23], but not yet for the axial operators. Furthermore, the 3NF at N 3 LO has been derived only recently [37,38] and, due to its complexity, only preliminary studies have been performed so far [16,39,40].…”

“…[38] causing little impact. Very recently, the long-range part of the chiral N 3 LO 3NF has been tested in the triton [41] and in three-nucleon scattering [42] yielding only moderate effects. The long-and shortrange parts of this force have been used in neutron matter calculations (together with the N 3 LO 4NF) producing relatively large contributions from the 3NF [43].…”
