Calibration and adjustment of mechanical property prediction model for poly(vinyl alcohol)-enhanced carbon nanotube buckypaper manufacturing

Abstract: Buckypaper is a free-standing carbon nanotube (CNT) sheet used to improve handling and manufacturability of CNT-based nanocomposites. To enhance the mechanical properties and manufacturing efficiency of buckypaper, polymeric binders, such as poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), are often added into the CNT network during the manufacturing process. This paper describes a physics-based model to predict the elastic modulus of PVA-enhanced buckypaper and a statistical approach to calibrate and adjust the model based on phys… Show more

“…To investigate the cause of the properties deterioration and to improve them while maintaining the purity of CNTs, extensive studies have been carried out to study the microstructure of the CNTs and establish a relationship between the parameters of the CNTs and its piezoresistive behavior, electrical and mechanical properties 19,3438 . From these investigations, it can be concluded that the reported properties of the CNT in the bulk form are lagging behind the extraordinary properties of individual CNTs.…”

“…This requires the application of data mining and data fusion techniques [271][272][273][274]. The integration of composite material, especially nanocomposite material, models at different scales and with different resolutions has become a popular case study for much materials informatics and data fusion research [275][276][277][278][279].…”
