CallCab: A unified recommendation system for carpooling and regular taxicab services

Abstract: Abstract-Carpooling taxicab services hold the promise of providing additional transportation supply, especially in extreme weather or rush hour when regular taxicab services are insufficient. Although many recommendation systems about regular taxicab services have been proposed recently, little research, if any, has been done to assist passengers to find a successful taxicab ride with carpooling. In this paper, we present the first systematic work to design a unified recommendation system for both regular and … Show more

“…Fastprk was shown to reduce travel time and fuel consumption, by reducing the time and distance driven to find a parking space. In addition to these applications, other solutions are being investigated by the research community such as sophisticated carpooling [136], [137] and public transportation systems that may stimulate the citizens to use these alternative transportation modes, instead of driving their own cars.…”

“…It leverages cachecoherent shortest path index and parallelism to achieve the efficient taix ride-sharing analysis. CallCab [28] deploys a generic Map-Reduce measure to tackle the raw dataset of 14,000 taxis efficiently. They deploy the incremental search approach, while in real world scenarios, this approach does not find all suitable taxis.…”

“…Route recommendation for taxi drivers has drawn much attention from researchers [6,16,11,8,14,15,17,4,18,19,9]. Most existing recommender systems are designed based on real world GPS trajectories which were collected through a large number of probing taxis.…”
