Calprotectin Degradation by Human Neutrophil Elastase, Measured by a Novel Serological Biomarker, Is Elevated in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, and Lung Cancer
Abstract:Neutrophils are known to have an impact on the pathogenesis mechanism in different pulmonary diseases, since they are a crucial part of the innate immune system. When activated, neutrophils can degranulate proteins and proteases, herein calprotectin (CP) and human neutrophil elastase (HNE). The aim of this study was to examine neutrophil activity in different pulmonary diseases by quantifying HNE-mediated CP degradation in serum using the novel neoepitope biomarker CPa9-HNE. Methods: A specific monoclonal anti… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
