This research emerged from exploring and uncovering ways, means, and modes to reflect upon challenging subjects in teacher education literacy classrooms, while modelling how responsive dialogue can take various forms to be more inclusive and equitable for all learners. Responsive dialogue includes creating and maintaining space for deeper discussion around topics through arts-based responses to texts. Exploring elements of storytelling, identity building, and the integration of arts-based pedagogies, visual arts provides a way into reflecting upon important current and social justice issues through literacies. Through Actor Network Theory and an Art Research Integration approach, teacher candidates reflect upon and share artistic events-in-practice to explore the guiding question: What happens when we cultivate art spaces in our teaching with teacher candidates?
