A considerable body of literature exists which focuses on the tension between line-management and supervision (Copeland, 2001; Edwards, 2001; Nixon & Carroll, 1994; Page & Woskett, 1994; Swain, 1995) and, as explained earlier, the line-manager/non-line-manager supervisor debate is not a focus for this paper. That said, although a line-manager supervisor model is not recommended by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, many organizations in the helping professions offer line-manager supervision to their employees.…”
