Can Energy Efficiency Help in Achieving Carbon-Neutrality Pledges? A Developing Country Perspective Using Dynamic ARDL Simulations

Abstract: The current research sheds light on the nexus between environmental degradation as proxied by carbon dioxide emissions (CO2), energy efficiency (EE), economic growth, manufacturing value-added (MVA), and the interaction effect of EE and MVA in India. Using yearly data from 1980 to 2019, the current study employs dynamic auto-regressive distribution lag (DARDL) simulations and Fourier Toda and Yamamoto causality techniques. The findings of DARDL reveal that as income and MVA rise, environmental quality decrease… Show more

“…The ARDL model's long-run estimation results indicate that GDP has a positive effect on carbon emissions. These estimations are consistent with those of other studies [9,20,22,24,26,28], which demonstrate a positive correlation between carbon emissions across various geographical regions.…”

“…In support of Raihan and Tuspekova [ 46 ], the outcome indicates that LGDP leads to rising LCO 2. Additionally, reducing LCO 2 through a unit investment in LEPR and supports recent findings by Hossain et al [ 47 ] as well as Emenekwe et al [ 48 ]. Finally, the outcomes support hypothesis (H 1 ) & (H 2 ) established for the study.…”

“…Jordan and Philips (2018) created dynamic ARDL (DARDL) produce, which incorporates a dynamic ECM, to reduce this burden. Predicated on the ceteris paribus idea, this approach enables the impacts of negative or positive shifts in an independent variable on the dependent variable to be quantified and visually examined (Hossain et al, 2022a, Hossain et al, 2022b, Hossain et al, 2022cAgboola et al, 2022;Zhang et al, 2022). As a result, the DARDL framework gives a one-to-one assessment of the connection between dependent and independent variables.…”
