Can Inhibin B Reflect Ovarian Reserve of Healthy Reproductive Age Women Effectively?

Abstract: ObjectiveThe reference range and potential value of inhibin B are still unclear and controversial. This study aimed to define the variation trend of inhibin B in healthy women with age and explore its value in the reflection of ovarian reserve.MethodsA total of 2524 healthy reproductive age women from eight medical institutes nationwide were recruited. The variation tendency of inhibin B with age was primarily established in the first group of 948 women and validated in another 605. We evaluated the relationsh… Show more

“…Moreover, due to different populations and detection kits in different studies and small sample sizes, the absolute values of inhibin B concentrations were also different. However, in the previous study, serum levels of inhibin B are positively correlated with AFC ( 6 ). Thus, we can assume that the decrease in serum levels of inhibin B in our study is per se associated with RAI treatment.…”

“…The assessment of the ovarian reserve can be based on different hormonal markers, dynamic tests, and ultrasonographic (USG) parameters, for example, antral follicle count (AFC). Markers such as the serum levels of anti-MĂŒllerian hormone (AMH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), or inhibin B are relatively good prognostic markers for fertility and reliable markers for the assessment of the functional ovarian reserve ( 4 , 5 , 6 ).…”

“…Serum levels of AMH (ng/ml) and inhibin B (pg/ml) were measured using AMH and inhibin B ELISA kits (Beckman Coulter Inc., Sacramento, CA, USA). Protocols were described in previous studies ( 26 , 27 ).…”

“…The level of Inhibin B in women is derived from granulosa cells, and it directly reflects the ovarian reserve during the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle. Inhibin B levels are lower in older women compared to young ones (Wen et al, 2021). Reductions in serum levels of Inhibin B constitute one of the early signs of a reduction in (or the loss of) the ovarian reserve, and it occurs with increasing age and Body Mass Index (BMI) (Wang et al, 2022).…”
