Abstract: The livestock sector provides promising opportunities and is assumed to bring desired growth in farmers' income, especially in less and poor endowed regions. “…The district level livestock income varies significantly across regions and states; it was presumed that different strategies and plans for boosting the livestock sector would be required based on its existing performance. Saxena et al (2017) has delineated all India into four zones, namely (i) Least performing zone (LPZ), (ii) Average performing zone (APZ), (iii) Good/Moderate performing zone (GPZ), and (iv) Well performing zone (WPZ) based on livestock income. The present study has considered the similar classification for the eastern India states.…”

“…1450 in Jharkhand to above Rs. 3650 in West Bengal (Saxena et al 2017). Therefore, if disposal of livestock and dairy products could be integrated with appropriate support, this could have multiplier effect on farmer's income and could serve as a case of vertical integration across the value chains.…”

Saxena et al (2017) have strongly emphasized on promotion and support for crossbreeding in less developed region as the crossbred adoption and productivity significantly enhance farmer's income.…”
