Can MS/OR Sell Itself Well Enough?

Abstract: Apparently MS/OR is being overtaken by newer decision aids such as decision support systems (DDS), and in addition, MS/OR has not received credit for its real contributions. This is a consequence of a narrow view of MS/OR emphasizing mathematics and neglecting such aspects as experimentation, heuristics, and modeling. A broad view of MS/OR consistent with its origins leads to a wider market of applications but risks psychological and political complications. We need to (1) take full advantage of computing hard… Show more

“…In many real cases dealing with certain phenomena such as; fuzziness and randomness simultaneously with the optimization problem as; fuzzy stochastic linear programming problems under uncertainty, is more inappropriate to get a compromised solution to such optimization model [22,28,40].…”

“…Therefore, APP is designed to deal with productive efforts as a whole, not in terms of detailed plans. A study of the literature on APP modeling concludes that linear programming (LP) is the most used approach for formulating the APP problem [2]. However, in practice, LP models assume that all required data input are deterministic and available.…”
