Can preoperative gonadotropin and testosterone levels predict the success of varicocelectomy?

Abstract: We examined the effects of preoperative hormonal values on varicocelectomy success. A total of 136 patients who underwent varicocelectomy for infertility in our clinic were analysed retrospectively. Improvement in semen quality was defined as >50% increase in post‐operative total motile sperm count (TMSC) in those with preoperative TMSC >5 million and at least 100% increase in those with <5 million. The patients were divided into two groups as benefiting from the treatment (Group A) and no benefits (Group B). … Show more

“…The total sperm count and the ratio of the progressively motile was used to determine total progressively motile sperm count (TPMSC = total sperm number (10 6 /ejaculate) × progressive motility (PR, %); PR, progressive (a + b motility)] [ 15 ]. In post-operative semen analysis, we defined semen parameter improvement as a greater than 50% increase in total motile sperm count (TMSC) within six months of surgery [ 15 ]. Semen analysis was conducted repeatedly and assessed in accordance with WHO guidelines [ 16 ].…”

“…In COVID-19 patients with severe inflammation, there is an increase in the inflammatory response and a decrease in the immune response. These responses are shown in the blood test results, including the leukocyte count, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR) (Ok et al 2021. Vaccination is necessary for COVID-19 management to reduce the number of COVID-19 cases.…”

“…To date, there have been many studies dedicated to the analysis of factors (predictors) affecting microsurgical varicocelectomy outcomes. 15 17 However, most of these studies are of a retrospective and prospective uncontrolled nature, and the results of most of them are conflicting, which do not allow unequivocal conclusions to be drawn. 18 In this review, we tried to collect and systematize all the evidence on the predictors of microsurgical varicocelectomy efficacy in male infertility treatment.…”
