Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) enable wireless communication among Vehicles and Infrastructures. Connected vehicles are promising in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSs) and smart cities. The main objective of VANET is to improve the safety, comfort, driving efficiency and waiting time on the road. VANET is unlike other ad hoc networks due to its unique characteristics and high mobility. However, it is vulnerable to various security attacks due to the lack of centralized infrastructure. This is a serious threat to the safety of road traffic. The Controller Area Network (CAN) is a bus communication protocol which defines a standard for reliable and efficient transmission between in-vehicle parts simultaneously. The message moves through CAN bus from one node to another node, but it does not have information about the source and destination address for authentication. Thus, the attacker can easily inject any message to lead to system faults. In this paper, we present machine learning techniques to cluster and classify the intrusions in VANET by KNN and SVM algorithms. The intrusion detection technique relies on the analysis of the offset ratio and time interval between the messages request and the response in the CAN.

KOMUNIKACJA W NIEWIELKICH SYSTEMACH KONTROLNO-POMIAROWYCHW artykule przedstawiono zagadnienie wymiany danych w ramach niewielkiej sieci urządzeń aparatowych, realizujących zadania związane z cyklicznym pomiarem, sterowaniem czy regulacją. Komunikacja w takim systemie musi uwzględniać ograniczenia czasowe na terminowość wymiany danych. Ponadto, ze względu na zadania takiego systemu, komunikacja bywa cykliczna lub wyzwalana. W związku z tym zaproponowano protokół komunikacyjny, który łączy zalety obu tych rodzajów komunikacji, gwarantując jednocześnie zachowanie stałego cyklu komunikacyjnego. Warstwa fizyczna przedstawionego protokołu moŜe być oparta na ciągle bardzo popularnym w zastosowaniach przemysłowych standardzie RS-485 albo CAN. W artykule wskazano takŜe globalne parametry komunikacyjne, które pozwalają określić ograniczenia czasowe niesione przez dany protokół. Zaprezentowano praktyczne obliczenia dla protokołów typu master-slave, wchodzących w skład proponowanego protokołu z przeplotem.

An Advanced Measurement System for Vortex-Induced-Vibrations Characterization in Large-Scale Risers

Abstract-This paper presents the development of an advanced measurement system for real-time characterization of Vortex Induced Vibrations (VIV) in large-scale marine risers. Marine risers play a critical role in offshore oil and gas operations by transporting mud, debris, and hydrocarbons from the reservoir to the surface platform. The mechanical structure of the riser is constantly subject to the effect of vortex shedding produced by seawater flow, which may result in severe oscillations known as VIV. At present, the prediction of this potentially destructive phenomenon is a challenging area of research that has gained special attention. While there have been significant research contributions on vortex induced vibrations on small riser models (8-10 m in length), the number of experiments on large-scale risers is limited, mainly due to technical complexity, logistics, and cost involved in large scale testing. Furthermore, the experiments that have been carried out are often proprietary and their publication in scientific literature has been limited. High mode results have been a challenge since it is generally accepted that at least five accelerometers are required to accurately map a cycle, and most of the riser models have been instrumented with no more than ten or twenty accelerometers due to the associated technical challenges. The advanced system described herein is modular and has been tested with sixty-four accelerometers, theoretically capable of mapping 25 modes of vibration. This is, therefore, a significant development towards understanding the vortex shedding phenomenon at high modes. A complete description and design considerations for this advanced measurement system is presented in this paper. This includes aspects such as system architecture, hardware and software design, mounting procedure, and communication protocol for an actual application.
