Abstract:A framework for assessing the capacity of railway axle journal bearings is presented after elaborating on the locale rolling contact fatigue (RCF) failure mechanism. Three phases are conducted, including the determination of bearing service loads, finite element analysis (FEA) on the localized RCF stresses of bearing components, and the life-related capacity assessment on the bearings and bearing components.
